― apply April 9 to May 7 for study starting September 2025 ―

Until May 7, the Global MBA Program at HOSEI Business School of Innovation Management is accepting applications for the cohort starting this September 2025 and graduating in March 2027. We are an accredited English-language MBA program in Tokyo.

Overview of the Global MBA Program:

  • GMBA is a 1.5-year program, meaning students entering September 2025 will graduate in March 2027. (We are one of the few programs in Japan to adopt the much-discussed switch to an autumn start of the academic year.)
  • There are four 7-week quarters a year, meaning only about half the year is spent in classes. And for those classes, the course schedule is set up to allow night and Saturday study for those who will work during the weekday. (Also, the student visa permits foreign nationals to work up to 28-hours per week.)
  • The program is entirely in English, but as it is run alongside our two Japanese MBAs (1-year and 2-year programs), courses may also be taken in Japanese, and students from the Global and Japanese Programs interact freely. (Japanese language study is also available — free of charge.)
  • For students not engaged in full-time work as a regular employee, the Program has two internship project programs: with regional and non-profit organizations in Year 1, and with business enterprises in Year 2. (Students who study while continuing as regular employees do practical study projects instead.)
  • The Business School is located in the heart of Tokyo, in Ichigaya.

The GMBA Program is ideal for the following people:

  • Those interested in MBA learning
  • Those who wish to gain practical experience through internships
  • Those looking for a way to start a career involving Japan, as Japanese language is not a requirement for entry — Japanese language study and courses in Japanese are available
  • Those in Japan who are interested in gaining overseas experience but need to be in Japan — the GMBA program provides an immersive international experience in Japan

Global MBA Program

Profile

Degree: Master of Business Administration
Standard period for completion of study: 1.5 years (start in September, graduate in March)

HOSEI Business School of Innovation Management started offering a new Global MBA Program (GMBA) in September 2015. Students enrolled in this 1.5-year program study Japanese business practices, Japanese companies, and Japanese management styles in the English language.

Since its inception, School of Innovation Management has focused on producing graduates who have a thorough understanding not only of major companies, but also of small and medium enterprises in Japan. In response to the trends of globalization, the GMBA Program was added along side our existing Japanese curriculum (a one-year full-time MBA program and a two-year MBA program for working professionals).

The Differences HOSEI GMBA Provides You

1 || You learn Japanese business and management.
You are able to learn Japanese business practices and management styles by studying for your MBA in Japan. The knowledge of Japanese production, supply management, and marketing will be your edge, as will be your understanding of such concepts as omotenashi and familiarity with such pop culture media as manga & anime. The GMBA curriculum focuses strongly on companies operating in these areas.

2 || Your internship gives you invaluable work and social learning experience
The HOSEI GMBA Program includes practical experience through problem-solving internship projects with regional government organizations, non-government/non-profit organizations, and/or business enterprises.

These internships are not only tremendous opportunities for gaining work experience, but they also enable you to have a well-rounded social experience during your time in Japan.
